Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training

VTCT Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training

This qualification replaces the QCF Level 3 Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector and the Level 4 Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector qualifications (CTLLS) introduced in 2007 and updated in 2011.

point3 Introduction
The new Certificate in Education and Training is one of a new suite of qualifications that have replaced the qualifications that were previously referred to as PTTLS, CTLLS and DTLLS. Here at Leeds Skills academy we recognise the need for staff to be encouraged to work towards achieving an appropriate Level 4 teaching qualification and as a result we can now provide you with access to the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training. The VTCT Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (QCF) is a qualification designed to enable you to develop practical teaching skills and has been mapped to the relevant National Occupational Standards. There are no entry requirements or formal prerequisite qualifications that you must have prior to undertaking this qualification. It will need to be established that you have the required knowledge, understanding and skills to enrol and successfully achieve this qualification.

point3 Frequently asked questions

Who is the Course for?
The Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training prepares trainers to teach in a wide range of contexts. It requires observation and assessment of practice. It can meet the needs of a range of trainee teachers, including:

• individuals who are not currently teaching and training but who can meet the practice requirements, including the observed and assessed practice requirements, of the qualification

• individuals who are currently teaching and training (including those who have just begun teaching and training) who can meet the practice requirements, including the observed and assessed practice requirements, of the qualification

• individuals currently working as assessors who wish to achieve a teaching qualification..

How is the course organised?
You will be required to attend ‘off the job’ training days which are scheduled at one day per fortnight over a six month period. You will be allocated a personal tutor and have access to a support worker for additional one to one support, organised on request. It should be noted that the additional support is not an alternative to structured ‘off the job’ training.

How will I be assessed?
You will be asked to complete several written assignments, this will be influenced by the optional units that you select. In addition to this you will be observed undertaking teaching/training practice on at least four occasions and you will be required to generate a ‘portfolio of evidence’ which will be assessed by your assessor. You will be required to maintain a reflective journal throughout your time on programme and a teaching/training log to prove that you have delivered at least 30 hours of teaching/training practice.

Are there any entry requirements?
You must be available to attend ‘off the job training’ as per the schedule that you have selected and you must be able to prove that you have delivered at least 30 hours of teaching/training practice (your teaching log). Your assessor must have access to observe you delivering teaching/training practice.
