Level 3 Award in Education and Training

Level 3 Award in Education and Training

point3 Introduction
The new Award in Education and Training is one of a new suite of qualifications that have replaced the qualifications that were previously referred to as PTTLS, CTLLS and DTLLS. Here at Leeds Skills academy we recognise the need for staff to be encouraged to work towards achieving an appropriate Level 3 teaching qualification and as a result we can now provide you with access to the Level 3 Award in Education and Training. The VTCT Level 3 Award in Education and Training (QCF) is a qualification for those interested in a teaching career in further education or for those who have recently started teaching. It will enable the learner to enter teaching employment and progress on to a broader teaching qualification. There are no formal prerequisite qualifications that you must have prior to undertaking this qualification. Before proceeding we will have ensured that you have the required knowledge, understanding and skills to enrol and successfully achieve this qualification.

point3 Frequently asked questions

Who is the Course for?
The Level 3 Award in Education and Training provides an introduction to teaching. It can meet the needs of a range of trainers and those new to teaching:
• individuals who are not currently in a teaching or training role as achievement of the qualification does not require practice other than micro-teaching, unless units from the Learning and Development suite of qualifications are selected;
• individuals who are new to teaching and training, the qualification does not require practice other than micro-teaching (unless units from the Learning and Development suite of qualifications are selected);
• individuals currently working as assessors who wish to achieve a qualification that provides an introduction to teaching.

How is the course organised?
You must attend a total of five ‘off the job’ training days which are spread over a six week period. You must attend the training centre for one day a week over four consecutive weeks. You then have a week free to ensure that you have all your work prepared for your final training day where you will be required to deliver a ‘micro teach’ (this is a short training session delivered to your peer group).

How will I be assessed?
You will have to complete three short written assignments and be observed delivered a micro teach or a training session. You will be given ten weeks from the start of your programme to ensure that all your assignments have been submitted for assessment and this will become your target completion date.

Are there any entry requirements?
There are no entry requirements but you must ensure that you are available to attend the five ‘off the job’ training days.
